Previous Quilling Works #3 - 2013 Quilled Bookmarks

I made this bookmarks as gifts for teachers in a school for our Golden Oil campaign. I made the logo only using Paint actually LOL. It is a shape of wok and a drop of oil.

Quilling Box Pop Up Card

This is my first attempt at making box pop up card. I saw this type of card from Miss Azlina's blog . My friends asked me to make a card for our supervisor for final year project, so I thought to give this card a try. I searched on how to make the box card, and I was actually surprised at how easy it is! Here are the pictures on the making of my first box pop up card.

The inside of the box. I used A4 size card for the box.

The outside of the box.

The inside of petals for husking flower.

The finished quilled flowers.

Closer look. I made Malaysian flowers, husking flower, some basic shaped flowers, and a butterfly. The butterfly was actually supposed to be a flower but I was too tired already at that time ><

After assembling the quilling parts.

How the card look when it's closed.

Here is the complete look. I added our names and some sticker embellishments. (Picture credit to Syahirah)
I am very happy with the outcome! We had a makan-makan with our supervisor and gave this to her. I am really glad our supervisor likes it.

Thanks for reading :)

P/S: I was thinking on making a business for quilling crafts. Anyone interested?

2014 New Year Typography Quilling

I  posted this a year after hahahaa. This was my first attempt in making numbers using typography. Every new years eve, I look forward to fireworks. I really love fireworks! I was lucky because my room was at the 6th floor, and I saw the fireworks in the sky. This piece was inspired from a quilled signage by Miyyah@kertas, and the burst of colors form the fireworks, thus the bright colors. The base is cereal box, as usual. And I made this in the middle of study week...

Beginning with the numbers. I used  a thick paper for this as it holds the shape better.

Adding the shapes. I made random quilled shapes and glued them wherever I like. No planning beforehand.

Closer look. I started using honeycomb techniques here.

The finished look.

Love the colors!

Happy Birthday Quilled Card

This is a simple gift for my friend+roommate's birthday in September 2014. I used cereal box as the base. I use anything I can find in my stash ><!

I made Malaysian flower and a simple flower. Those green coils are for the leaves.

Initial look. Yes I made this on my bed.

I found it to be a bit plain, so I added more dots...

... using bronze Sharpie. It looks better I think.
Gave it to her and I'm glad she likes it! It's always a joy to make someone happy.

Previous Quilling Works #2 - 2012 Quilling Works

I haven't updated this blog for an entire year!!! From my third year of studies it was really hectic, up until now. I am currently a final year student, struggling to study for final exam next week. Nothing much to say in this post. These are the quilling I made back in 2012, the year I started doing this craft. Enjoy the pictures! (excuse the not-so-good-looking ones, I'm still learning ><)

Here is my first quilling. The colored papers are actually from sticky notes.
First attempt at typography. D is my initial.
First attempt at husking techniques. No combs used. Just estimated the length of each loops.

First attempt at full piece. This is one of my personal favorites.

That's all for this post. I'll post pics of my quilling works in 2014 in next posts. Thank you for reading.

Short Update!

I'm really sorry for not updating this blog for such a long time.
Got really busy with uni work.
We take entrepreneurship course this semester, which means we need to form a group and begin a business.

Guess what my group did for our business?

FELT PRODUCTS!

It is indeed such new experience for us all, as no one in my group know how to do it form scratch. And yes, it was my idea.

So I learned all the necessary steps from the internet, as usual, and taught them. It is not so hard after all, but still it needs perseverance, like any other crafts do. I really enjoyed making them.

Our company name - D'Epsilon Felt Handicraft. Why Epsilon? Just before the entrepreneurship class, we learn about the term 'epsilon' in Genetics lecture.

We mainly took orders from friends and other students, aside from making some ready-made ones to be sold directly to customers. It's really popular among my younger brother's classmates. They said these are cute and would like to make a collection haha :D. We had a 4-day carnival for all groups of students taking this course as a business practical week. Only 4 days, minus Monday as it was a break due to the PRU.

Just some random shapes.

Alhamdulillah, we managed to make profits and no loss. But the important thing is not just about the money, it's the knowledge and experience in business. My course also deals with food product development, so in the future, our business skills may come in handy to get our own products in the market.

Another important thing now is

FINAL EXAM!!!

Wish me luck!

Previous Quilling Works

Today I want to share with you some of my quilling works I've done previously. Most of them were made by using self-cut paper of 5mm width, so they look quite thick.

Sunflower
This one is the first quilling I made since I began my second year in university. Very simple, just some teardrop shapes of yellow and cream paper (I combined both paper) and black tight coils for the center.

Simple flower
I made this one just to use up the excess paper from the sunflower quilling. I made teardrop shape also, but I bent the end of the paper coil. For the leaves, I used comb technique.

Husking flower
This was my first attempt at husking technique. I use simple coils for the leaves.

Orchid
One of my favorite works :) Two toned petals. My mom like it too. I also used comb technique for the leaves. (excuse the flower-leaves placement)

Malaysian flower
My second attempt at Malaysian flower. This technique is very interesting to try on, and the outcome looks really nice. Again, I used comb technique for the leaves. Will try it to make flower petals later.

Oranges
This was inspired by a picture I found in the internet. I applied glue on them to make them hard. The bottom one was made a week before the top one haha. I added the top one much later, got something bugged me a lot last week (which is why the bottom one looked ugly compared to the top one. Just look at the coils! Not smooth at all)

That's all I have for now. Surely will make more in the future :D
